Researchers for the University of Colorado recently conducted a study looking at the beneficial effects of acupressure (technically Jin Shin Do) on patients with mild traumatic brain injuries.
Researchers used a system called Jin Shin Do (one of many systems of acupressure) for treatment. The treatments in this study used a series of 26 standard Jin Shin Do points which are placed all over the body and the goal is to free the movement of energy throughout the meridians. Points commonly used in Jin Shin Do including the following:
- ST 3, 13, 16
- SP 4, 9, 10, 13
- GB 13, 20, 21, 31, 34
- LV 14
- KD 6
- UB 38, 42, 47, 48, 62
- TH 5, 15
- SI 10
- LI 11, 14
- PC 2, 3, 6
- LU 1
After recruiting 38 patients who had experienced traumatic brain injury (TBI) they were divided into 2 groups - one a treatment group and another placebo treatment (sham acupressure) group both done by the same expert practitioners. Using a range of cognitive function tests the study found significant improvement in function among the active treatment group compared to the sham acupressure group.
